Boston Irish Heritage Trail
Expands
The Boston Irish Tourism
Association has released a new map of the
city's Irish Heritage Trail, a three-mile
self-guided walking tour of Boston Irish
history. The updated Irish Heritage Trail
has gone from 16 to 20 stops. The
four new sites are:
- The statue of
Kevin H. White, mayor of Boston
(1968-84), at Faneuil Hall.
- The memorial to
John F. Collins, mayor of Boston
(1960-68), at City Hall.
- The
Central Burying Ground on Boston
Common, where Irish Catholics were
buried in the eighteenth century.
-
Fenway Park, which was built by
Irish immigrant Charles E. Logue.
The Irish Heritage Trail
begins in the North End at the Rose
Fitzgerald Kennedy Rose Garden and ends at
Fenway Park. It includes historic
cemeteries, memorials, and statues to
various notable Irish-Americans.
Get a free copy of the
Irish Heritage Trail map at Visitor
Information Centers on Boston Common or the
Prudential Center, and at rest stops on the
Mass Turnpike. You can also
view the map online at the Irish
Heritage Trail website, or order a copy for
a small postage/handling fee.
