Greater Boston Irish Pubs, Irish Bars, Irish Sports, Nightclubs, Nightlife & Entertainment in and around Boston, Massachusetts & NE Irish Soccer NEW YORK (XXX, April XX, 2007) – Soccer United Marketing (SUM), in association with Full Play and the New England Revolution, today announced a two-game tour of the Republic of Ireland National Team for May 2007. Ireland will face the Ecuador National Team on Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at Giants Stadium in E. Rutherford, NJ at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Irish will then travel to the Boston area to face Bolivia at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, May 26 at 4:00 p.m. ET in the first match of the doubleheader that also includes the MLS regular season date in which the Revolution will host the Kansas City Wizards (6:30 p.m. ET). Ireland, in its return to both New York and Boston after seven years, is currently tied for first place (13 points) in the UEFA Euro 2008 qualifying with Germany and the Czech Republic. The Irish feature experienced players like Robbie Keane (Tottenham Hotspur / ENG), Damian Duff (Newcastle United / ENG) and Shay Given (Newcastle United / ENG). Ireland’s next Euro 2008 qualifying match is September 8 against Slovakia. Ireland is managed by Stephen Staunton, a former national team star and teammate of Revolution coach Steve Nicol at Liverpool. Ireland vs. Ecuador – Wednesday, May 23, 2007 – E. Rutherford, NJ The match will mark only the second ever encounter between Ireland and Ecuador. Ireland, in its first New York metropolitan area appearance since a 2-1 win over South Africa in June 2000, defeated the South American country back in 1972. Ecuador returns to its large fan base in the New York area for the eleventh time. Key players for Ecuador are Edson Mendez (PSV Eindhoven / HOL), Carlos Tenorio (Al Sadd / QAT) and Luis Antonio Valencia (Wigan / ENG). Tickets for the New York match start at $35 and can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, Delgado Travel outlets and at the box office at Giants Stadium. Due to a possible conflict with other events at the sports complex, capacity will be initially capped at 30,000. Ireland vs. Bolivia – Saturday, May 26, 2007 – Foxboro, MA The match between the two squads will mark the third encounter between Ireland and Bolivia. The Irish, returning to the Boston area for the first time since June 2000 when they tied 1-1 with the USA, have one won all previous matches against Bolivia, including a 3-0 result in 1996 in New York. Bolivia has played once before in the Boston area, a scoreless tie versus South Korea during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The Bolivian team includes Juan Manuel Peña (CF Villareal / SPA), Gualberto Mojica (Pacos Ferreira / POR) and Ronald Raldes (Rosario Central /ARG).
